The House of Lords was host to an of Eid ul Fitr Celebration and celebrated the achievements and contributions of British Muslims and other minorities to our society. The challenges communities are facing were discussed and ideas to overcome these were explored, mainly in the fields of education, healthcare and community cohesion, including the menace of terrorism.
Lord Sheikh provided the welcome note followed by numerous respected guest speakers who provided both interesting and relevant points of view and summaries of their work to proactively encourage community cohesion.
Clearly much is being done at an individual level however to have greater impact there is a need to bring proactive, creative professionals together to have solution focussed debates on current issues faced by British Muslims and thence turn these into actions.
The evening concluded with poetry recitals both intense and some quite light hearted.
