The royal society of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics with Unesco, hosted an event for primary school pupils to celebrate the closing of the Unesco year of light with a focus on Ibn Al-Haytham also known as the ‘ father of light’.
Pupils saw a special film with the late Omar Sharif which celebrated the life of Ibn Al-Haytham. It showed how he discovered the Camera Obscura or the pin hole camera, and demonstrated how light travels in straight lines.
Pupils then carried out a range of practical 15 minute workshops, focused on different activities to do with light, optical illusions, lasers and making a kaleidoscope.
